Uh? Put a neckline on a hemline? Well, kinda. I’ve been looking at the peek-a-boo transformation on Designer Necklines and wondered if I could use it to decorate something other than a neckline. After an aha! moment, I decided to try it on the hem of a sweatshirt. Look how easy it is.
First, remove the ribbing at the hem. Mark the side seam with a pin (if there isn’t a seam, just find the side of the shirt on both sides).
Hoop tear-away stabilizer. Stitch the peek-a-boo neckline from Designer Necklines on the stabilizer. Remove the hoop from the machine and draw a straight line at the bottom of the curved stitched neckline.
Spray the stabilizer with temporary adhesive. Turn the shirt inside out and place the hem edge on the straight line, matching the side seam to the short horizontal stitched line.
Reattach the hoop to the machine. Slip the bulk of the shirt over the head of the machine and tape the shirt to the top of the machine. Love that!
Stitch the decorative element.
Place a piece of facing fabric (knit, woven or interfacing), right side down over the embroidery. Stitch the final color, the peek-a-boo transformation.
Remove the hoop and carefully tear the sweatshirt away from the stabilizer. Cut the shirt between the V. Cut right up to the point of the V but do not snip the threads.
Sew about 1” from the hem.
Turn the facing to the inside and pin along the seam. Edgestitch. Repeat for the other side seam, then hem the rest of the shirt. Add the same design to the neckline as instructed on the Designer Neckline DVD. Voila! A refashioned hemline!

Plus I’m still looking at patterns in my books to embroider some items for Christmas. I’m new to embroidery – just got my first machine a few months ago so I have ALOT to learn! But I’m lovin’ it all!

I made my neighbor girls AG doll beds with complete bedding ensembles – embroidered sheets, pillow cases and minature quilts. I’m not sure what else I’ll get done before the holidays, but anything can happen.

11 years agoI’m working on Scrubbies for our daughter and have given several away as Thank you gifts, also a quilt for our granddaughter “Newton all Year Long”, a quillo for her sister, (John Deere) and hopefully some ornaments for our tree. So many more but that will have to be for the New Year.

11 years agoI just spent two days at the Stitchin Sisters conference with my mom and since she decided to give me an early Christmas and birthday present for the next 8 years or more with a Quattro 2 I decided to get going. I have already finished 2 sets of towels for a wedding gifts, made a new Halloween outfit for my daughter and looked through my stash of stuff to make my Christmas gift list. The list includes purses for my girlfrinds, eye glass cases for the kids teachers, a cool jacket for my sister-in-law and a new embroidered Christmas tree skirt for my sister and my mom. Big plans and a little overwheliming but one thing per day and one day at a time and I will get it done by Dec 22! Three days to spare will be awesome and maybe I will make something for me:)

11 years agoWell, I’ve got a quilt almost finished for my new grandbaby — top done and quilt sandwich put together. Just need to do the quilting and binding. I’ve purchased the fabric to make two more quilts of the other two grands which will get started as soon as I finish the baby quilt. Plan to make sets of embroidered napkins and hand towels for all my sisters and sister-in-laws. Got the napkins and towels purchased. Yeah, I’m gonna be busy!

11 years agoAfter finally locating lining fabric printed with tubes of pink and red and fuchia lipsticks, I am embroidering makeup bags for my girlfriends that say “My Lipstick is Pinker (or Redder) Than Your Lipstick” with a bright, embroidered kiss print on one side and their name on the other. Inside will contain the special hand lotion they always look forward to.

11 years agoWe are expecting a new GD any day now and I have been sewing up a pink storm. so far: 6 baby quilts, 18 receiving blankets, 28 burp cloths, many bibs, gowns, swaddling cloths…… I tend to get carried away, but this hobby is so much fun!!

11 years agoLet me begin with thanking the Stitching Sisters for two great days of fun learning. I have a Brother 6000 Quatro and learned so much. It was like a new machine again. I am doing all the designs we did in the seminar. They were great and will make so many Christmas gifts. I espescially love the “Ladybug”. these were two days very well spent. Thanks Sisiters.

11 years agoThis year I have cut back quite a bit on my sewing list (as other obligations have come up this year), I already have gifts made for all of my sisters and my sister in law (don’t want to say what they are in case one might read this). I am making a table runner for my step daughter for her Christmas table, I am making a yo-yo Christmas tree for one of my sons and I am going to make a “cat” pillow for another one of my son’s (this kitty recently passed away and he was devestated so I wanted to make something he will remember him by). I got the idea from a craft mag. and you print a photo of the animal onto printer fabric, applique it to the pillow fabric, cut the pillow fabric to the shape of the photo and then sew.

11 years agoI’ve been making potholders from old jeans using insul-bright between the layers and a cotton fabric on the back. I use my decorative stitches from the machine to further enhance my embroidery design before and/or after stitching the 3 layers together. For example I embroidered Koi on some blue denim and used green denim for boarders then used my machines decorative stitches to add seaweed and bubbles around the Koi. Pretty inexpensive gift plus a small project like hot pads lets me try alot of different techniques.
Also making mittens from felted wool sweaters. Embroidering a small design or monogram on the top of each mitten.
