Vintage, Old School, Retro – Get the Look!

Last week, Sew Much More, Austin, TX, hosted the first Vintage Chic event and wow- it was a hit!  Attendees were fascinated with the look of this trendy embroidery.  Inspirations Education Consultant Ashley Jones repeatedly heard, “Did you embroider your shirt?  Can I do that too?”

They were captivated with the new techniques Ashley shared.  The four-hour class went by in a flash.  Ashley freely shared her samples and knowledge so that attendees could go home immediately and have success. She even shared how she used the threads on her serger.

Dime’s Rope 15 wt. polyester thread stitched on a serger!

And how to mix these chunky stitches with prints – like a powerful black and white stripe!

It even pops on prints!

There were so many happy faces in the crowd.

Who said embroidery is a solitary sport?

They couldn’t wait to get started on their own vintage creations.  Attendees exclaimed, “Finally!  I can duplicate this look on my home embroidery machine.”

Ready to get started!

Loved the event, loved the designs and purchased everything. I assumed these designs with the 15 wt thread would stitch on my top of the line Bernina 880. This thread does not work in the top of the line Bernina 880. I have contacted Sew Much More and DIME and hope this can be resolved quickly. Were these designs and thread tested in a Bernina 880? I really want this to work on my machine.

Nancy, Scott Goodman, author of the Great Scott column in Designs in Machine Embroidery magazine and owner of Sewing Machine Warehouse in Los Angeles, tested the 15 wt on the 880 today. He did not have a problem. He tells me he did not change any settings or make adjustments to the tension. He used bobbin weight thread in the bobbin. If you head over to our page on Facebook, you can see the photos of his sample there.

We will continue to research to find out why your 880 did not perform as expected.

Thank you so much ch for your prompt attention to my concerns. I am thrilled to hear of some success with your designs and 25 wt thread on a Bernina 880. I will look for the pictures on Facebook. I was starting out trying to stitch design abstract 0093 in attempts to recreate the adorable necklace The instructor wore to our event. Would it be possible to ask him to test that design on the 880? I also inquired at Bernina USA and received the following “the bobbin case stopper on the 880 may need adjustment to provide clearance for the heavy thread “. I will attempt to get more detailed instructions on how to accomplish that adjustment. I will be doing s happy dance when I can get these designs to stitch out on my machine….the are quite lovely.

I have a Bernina 780. If I had to adjust the bobbin for the heavier weight threads, I would, personally, but an second bobbin case and mark it for vintage. Our local event was in April and there as nothing new at the event. Have fun with your Vintage!

Thanks but the 800 has a much different bobbin system than the 700 machines and there isn’t a separate bobbin case

Got it now! Lovin’ it all. I needed to manually raise the bobbin thread. Stitching beautifully on my Bernina 880 now! Wish I could post a picture,
