Quilt Market

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

What’s so great about Quilt Market? People, Fabric, Quilts and…Santa!  I’m just back from Quilt Market after spending a fantastic day on the show floor meeting with old friends, connecting with new ones, drooling over gorgeous fabric displays, ogling breathtaking quilts and taking a moment to pose with Santa.  I never pass up a hug from Santa! Even at the ripe old age of 25, oops maybe my dyslexia is kicking in on that number.  I even talked my old friend and colleague, Designs ad rep Sandy Griggs, into a quick Santa snapshot!  Doesn’t Sandy look terrific? There’s a girl who never seems to age.

Check out two of my favorite, non-related stitching sisters, HoopSisters Lynda Remmers and Annie Moody.  I waited in their booth for what seemed like an eternity to snap a photo of the sisters with their hot new quilt – Star Feather. Never one to interrupt a sale, I waited and waited until shop owners vacated the booth for a brief moment. The HoopSisters are on a roll! Kudos to Lynda and Annie!

Designs pages are full of talented embroidery design companies and I had the chance to visit with some of them.  Rhea and Lisa from Pickle Pie Designs were so pretty in pink!  Lots of gorgeous samples in their booth and I loved their dishtowel designs.

Speaking of pretty booths, Lunchbox Quilts, made quite a splash at Market. Again, the booth was mobbed, but I was finally able to grab a quick shot of Lunchbox Quilts founder, Angela Stevenson, in front of her popular quilt, Love Letters.

As I made my way down to the quilt gallery, I stopped to say hello to Sealed with A Stitch and wound up having my laugh for the day.  David and Susan O’Very are a very capable husband-wife team with popular design collections, quilt blocks, in-the-hoop projects and more.  I chatted with David while I waited for Susan to free herself from interested shop owners.  David explained the chain of command at their company. Proudly, he boasted of his envious CEO title, and then explained exactly what CEO meant. Carry Everything Out.  Oh I howled!  What a great sense of humor – laced with quite a bit of truth, I imagine!

Tomorrow I’m heading back to Houston for Quilt Festival. I haven’t attended Festival in many years and yikes, I even enrolled in a software class. I am going to try to be on my absolute best behavior in this class. After all, I usually teach.  And I know when I teach, some of my hmmm, most challenging students are teachers! So I’m going to keep my mouth shut, keep up with the class, turn my cell phone off, disconnect from the internet and CONCENTRATE!  So if you see me wandering the hall on Wednesday during the 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM class time, you’ll know I couldn’t do it!

I hope to see some of you at Festival. I’ll be in Discount Embroidery’s booth (#1053) on Thursday between 11:00 and 12:00. Stop by and hello!  After that fun event, it’s time for me to pack for the Stitching Sisters’ seminar next weekend in Sherman Oaks, CA. It’s our last event of the year and guess who is hosting this fun event? Great Scott! That’s right, Scott Goodman, Designs Great Scott columnist. He tells me there are still a few seats left so come on out and join us!  Learn more by clicking here.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

The winner is… Paula Roney!
“I’m getting ready to start my holiday projects at sewing retreat this week.  I’m hoping to complete the stipple sea shell quilt for my friend with five days of power sewing.  I made my neighbor girls AG doll beds with complete bedding ensembles – embroidered sheets, pillow cases and miniature quilts.  I’m not sure what else I’ll get done before the holidays, but anything can happen.”

Congratulations Paula!

I love all the baby things – especially the gowns. I am going to be a first time grandmother this spring – to twin girls! The baby items would make a very nice gift.

  • Clem

I like the napkins. I am getting away from paper products as much as possible and linen napkins would be great. I do not want to monogram them, but get enough to embroider for the different holidays, different seasons, different meals, etc. I know it is a monumental task, but eventually I will have enough napkins. lol

I love the double-seated panties. With one grandaughter 4 months old and another due in February I would love to make these for them. They will look so cute in these!

Love Embroider This for embroidery blanks. I have purchased the linen towels, table runners, and can/bottle wraps to embroider and gave them as gifts. Last year I add fur for snow and blue material for the sky and embroidered a village with Santa and sleigh on a table runner.

I have a shawl and a table runner waiting to embroider.

At the time I’m acting cranky. I haven’t been able to sew anything for weeks. I’d love to try everything. Maybe I’ll get so cranky my husband realises that I must be locked away with my sewing machine.

  • Kay

Oh yes! I started last January! I have a few more shirts to finish for nieces and nephews, and I hope to have my Dakota Collectibles Nativity Window Scene quilt finished by Christmas, so I can give it to my husband. (He’s a pastor.)

I like the hankies. When I was young and wanted to give my mom a gift for her birthday the ‘five and dime store’ was my favorite place to shop, I sure miss that store. Then comes the towels and so many other great items.

  • Donna

Of course, I love the baby things…everything for my grandbabies from bibs to burp clothes to diaper covers. But I think my favorite this Christmas will be the kitchen towels I plan to embroider with digitized recipe designs for my 86 years young mother. She has become obsessed with baking brownies and carrot cakes.

I love the baby fancy panties. I’ve been buying them for several years for my granddaughter and embroider a cute design on the back. She loves twirly skirts and dancing, so when her skirt comes up, there are the cutest panties with an adorable design on it. I’ve bought other items from Embroider This and the quality has always been great. I’d have no trouble spending a gift certificate, LOL!!

    (2) brand new granddaughter, and
    (3) brand new grandson-in-progress,
Wil make me their best customer for beautiful baby clothes!

  • Birdie Cade

I love the variety of sample packs offered on their website. That gives you a better idea of the quality & what is available rather than ordered one of everything. Once you get those you can do tests on each sample & see what works best for the projects you will be working on.

  • Becky

I would like to embroider on the battenburg lace tree skirt. Also I would like to use one of the adult terry bibs and use fabric paint or tie dye it then using the free digital access to the Designs in Machine Embroidery Magazine which is provided by Embroidery This and get more ideas and find the perfect design to brighten and make the bib lively for a great BBQ when you are serving ribs. Having the free digital access to the magazine is like an dictionary of designs and ideas at your fingertips.

  • Doreen

I love the Battenburg lace tree skirt and the natural linen bags, and wine aprons.

  • Jodie

I really like their handkerchiefs, cocktail napkins, toiletries bag. I have purchased from them many times. Cocktail napkins make for great wedding gifts and the handkerchiefs are great for the man you don’t have a clue what to give. Just last week I was thinking they would make super groomsmen presents as well.

  • Lois Daubney

I loved so many things on their website, but my favorite was the wine aprons & coasters. The spa wraps looked like a great gift idea.

  • Linda

I especially liked the availability of the sample packs. I can just see it now. First I had a fabric stash, then I became addicted to all kinds of threads. Now, I’m going to collect blanks. The variety of quality blanks is outstanding. I’d like to have an assortment on hand, when the occasion for a gift arises.

  • LeAnne L

Son, son-in-laws, grandson-in-laws always get their monogrammed handkerchiefs. They know what they are going to get and they definitely look forward to it every year. Eight year old grandson is now making his request for some of his own mongrammed handkerchiefs.
