Machine Embroidered Wedding Touches

As tempting as it was to go overboard, I limited myself to make just one machine-embroidered element for my recent wedding: the table numbers.  In retrospect, I’m not so sure anyone noticed that the numbers were embroidered but that’s okay with me. I enjoyed the process.

Since our wedding took place in a natural stone setting (limestone floor, stucco walls, etc) I felt the table numbers and name cards should have an ‘old world’ feel.  So I used ink and water to age basic card stock tags and embroiderable paper. I had a blast doing that – I like to get my hands dirty so this was right up my alley!  First, I used two colors of Distress Ink (tea and coffee colors).

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

I just dabbed the tea ink pad over the tag and then followed with the darker coffee ink.  Then I quickly swiped a wet paper towel across the tag to blend the smudges.  They dried flat and smooth!

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

The next step was how to display the name tags.  I found a very affordable wire dress form with circular details and used it to hold (and transport) the name tags. Once I inserted the name tags in the dress form circles, I slid a large plastic trash bag over the dress form and tied it on the bottom. It kept everything in order for the big day.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

I applied the same ink technique to the embroiderable paper (The Sewphisticated Stitcher) but didn’t get the same results. That paper quickly absorbed all the ink so the blending wasn’t as smooth as I would have liked. It seemed to call for another layer of ink. So I added a spray of paper ink.  The result? A slightly mottled paper.  Now for the embroidery.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

I used open, airy digits from Urban Threads ( I found I could fit two table number tents on each 8 ½” x 11” piece of embroiderable paper. I used a target ruler to mark the position for each letter and gently placed a target sticker in that location.  Too much adhesive might have harmed the paper but a soft touch did the trick.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

I placed the bottom frame of my 4” x 4” Snap-Hoop on the machine.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

Then I slid the paper under the needle, aligning the target sticker with the needle. I used the edge of the paper as a guide to make sure the paper was square on the hoop.  Then I snapped magnets onto the frame.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

I could have used the top magnetic frame of Snap-Hoop but I found just dropping the magnets (from my Magna-Hoop Jumbo) was much easier in this application.  Once I removed the target sticker, I embroidered the number.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

I repeated this for each number, rotating the number for the other side of the tent.

After completing the four numbers, I cut the paper, folded the strips and used double-sided tape to hold them together at the bottom.

As it turned out, the table numbers weren’t the only embroidered items.  My dear friend Mary Mulari brought vintage wedding hankies for each female guest!  What a generous offer.  Many were embroidered (mostly by hand) – all were gorgeous.

My Stitching Sister, Marie Zinno, surprised with me an embroidered table runner for the unity candle table.  A treasured memento!

Personal touches are what make a wedding day an expression of a couple’s love.  When family members pitch in to do some of the prep – it makes for some wonderful memories. Since I have five sisters who are capable of pulling off anything, I knew we could handle doing our own flowers. So we did – centerpieces, bridal bouquets, boutonnières, and wall decorations.  I imported the flowers from South America and had them delivered two days before the wedding.  I captured two of my sisters, Marie Zinno and Kath Brown, to do the actual arranging in my garage the day before the wedding.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

The groom and I hauled the flowers to the location a few hours before the wedding and then an army of family joined forces to transform the barren space. I knew I could count on another sister, Liz Scully, for her museum-quality bow-tying expertise.  Really, this woman would win a Martha Stewart bow-tying throw-down. I supplied the pretty ribbon and she made it look perfect! Here are four of my sisters (from left to right): Liz Scully, Kath Brown, Marie Zinno, me, and Mary Pat Palombo during set-up.

And after.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

My oldest sister, Mary Pat Palombo, jumped into action and was a valuable set of hands.  My cousin, Pat Mulligan, climbed a 12 ft. ladder to help engineer the hanging of a 30-ft. baby’s breath/tulle garland.  Height is no issue for Patrick since he’s used to having his head in the clouds as a captain with American Airlines.

It was a magical day.

  • Susan C.

Definitely “C” although I like the “viney” part of “B.” What’s the project? Looks like a border…

    • dee lowe

3/24/2012 we both got married that day-congrats
love B but I am a color person so maybe if C were in different colors , hmmm it would be hard to really chose a favorite-I wan’t much help was I ?
I just happen to stumble across the ITSEWEASY show the 27th and loved every minute of it.
I have been getting your e-mails for a while now, sorry this is my first time leaving a comment.
      Wishing many years of bliss.

      • eileenroche

Congratulations to you and your new hubby, Dee!

        • dee lowe

          Thank-you for well wishs.
Question for you, if you were teaching someone brand new to EM,where would you start?
p.s. did I miss the post where you decided which EM design?

    • Sharon Larder

I love all 3 designs, but B stands out to me.
The colours and lines are so much clearer and defined. Makes me want to embroider it on something white so show it off.
The pattern also looks so versatile and you could use it on clothing or houshold items.
Your wedding looked lovely, I hope you are very happy together.
      Keep inspiring us.
      Thanks Sharon

    • Barbara

Love “B” Design. It has just the right amount of twining to not be overdone. My go to gift is unique linen hand towels to match bride’s decor.

    • Judy Rouse

I like B the best. Very interesting designs

    • Leah Armitage

For some reason my eye keeps being drawn to C. They are all very pretty, but C is a little different than the traditional repetitive type design. The neutral colors are great andcould be used in almost any project.

    • Sandie Klucar

I also agree with “C” as the best choice Though “A” could work if you get rid of the black color. variegated colors would work well with these designs.

  • Lois Cockrell

I really think B has a good balance of different shapes without being too busy.

  • Sandra Burrel

Hi love all three but mostly C, designs is elegant but simplier than the other two and I love the color also.

  • Terri Hiaumet

I think design A is the best.

    Terri H.

  • DK

    I am fond of B.

  • Sheryl Matthews

Definitely design “B”. I love anything Jacobean and this one screams Jacobean to me. I also love the stitching in the center of the leaves and flowers.

  • Terrie Pagel

I like B, but I think that is simply because of the color scheme. All three designs are beautiful. It would help to know what the project is to make a proper selection.
Good luck with the project. Can’t wait to see what it is.

  • nadine thomas

I am so fond of B!!!

  • Linda Legare

I Like B because it is lighter looking and very “airey”

  • Karen U.

B is my favorite, although I like all of them.

  • Susan Boliek

B is definitely my favorite. I love the contrasting colors!

  • Sue Jackson

I love them all…the colors of B are my favorite, but C could be done in greens for a Celtic look…these would be gorgeous around the hem of a simple jacket, then pick out some detail for the front of a tee to match…I could go on and on. LOL Thanks for the opportunity to win a Magna-hoop. I just bought a HV Ruby and have been investigating the Magna-Hoops that are available.

  • Bonnie Readie

“B” is my choice. Looks so fresh and young at heart. Although I do agree all are lovely. Can’t wait to see the new ideas each week.

  • Angela Brady

I like them all, but A is my final choice. I am enjoying the wedding blog.

  • Cathy

    C Is my favorite.

  • charlotte S.

I really like A. It looks like a very old design. Enjoying the wedding blog, Congratulations! Have a happy and long marriage.

  • Lorraine

    I like design A

  • Vickie Glass

Oohhh! So hard to choose but I think I like C best. Enjoying your blog.

  • Dot Flanagan

    I like selection A

  • Mary

I love all 3, very hard to chose but i will say A…looks vintage. Love B too, Jacobean is always a desirable look, and c is beautiful as well!

  • Mary Catherine

I went with the color cjoices you had posted and went with “A”.
    It’s lovely.

  • Darlene M. LaMaster

B jumped right out, hands down

  • Pat

While I like them all, B is my choice. Jacobean style items are among my favorite and the colors pictured make it just that much more attractive.

  • connie

I had a hard time deciding between A and C but I like C the best.

  • Kathy

I like A the best. I like the others but A just stands out-maybe it was the colors used.

  • Lori Woodward

Thank you for sharing your wedding photos with us, I love the idea of the personalized table runner for the unity candle! I like the natural tones of design C.

  • Angeles

My favorite is “B”. I think it will look beautiful on a table cloth.

  • Gerry Barrett

“A” jumped out at me…after just reading about all the wedding “doings” it looked like hearts…well, sorta, anyway, if you squint your eyes!

  • lynn zukowski

I am especially drawn to pattern C. This is classy, and sofisticated. I think the colours are so harmonious- residing beside each other on the colour wheel. The design details are intricate and yet calming with all the arcs and swirls. Love it!

  • Pam J.

All of the designs are beautiful, but my favorite would have to be choice “B”

  • Jo of So TX

I like “B” best, should look great on a large number of projects.

  • Margaret

I Like all three but the best is B. Love the colors used.

  • Marcie Bayhi

    (B) is my favorite. I like the color combination as well.

  • Kelly Jackson

Design B appeals to me. It has life and interest that pops out.

  • Liz Fergus

I go with C – it reminds me of the 3-leafed clovers I searched among as a child looking for that lucky 4-leafed clover! It would be so pretty in greens and whites. Brings back lovely memories of a wonderful time…

  • Mary

Thank you for sharing. Sun and sand, my choice is C.

  • LeAnne L

I like B best. C comes in a really close second.

  • Sharlene Klegstad

    I like B the best

  • Phyllis

My immeidate feeling of “A” and “C” is that they are both very busy.

Without knowing what the project is, or where the design would be used in the project, I would choose “B”. I think “B” is very open and summery and I like the open feeling of the flowers. It looks like a border design that I would like to use.

  • Karen Poole

What a Great blog! Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with us.
As for the designs, I think the choice would depend on the project, but picking one sort of in the blind, I would pick design numer one, I just Love that design!

  • Lynda Ward

I like B. The color balance is good. (The black in choice A is too harsh; it stands apart from the rest of the design.)

Thanks for sharing the beautiful wedding pictures!

  • Judy G

I like the color combination in “B” the best. That is a very talented family you have there!

  • Terri Vanden Bosch

    I like B the Best!!

  • Laurie Dacus

I like A – I like the paisley detailing in the outer edges. I might not use such a contrast when I stitch it, though – with the black outline on the “heart” looking shapes. I also like the candlewick stems.
thanks for posting and sharing about your wedding, makes us feel a part of your celebration.

  • Marlakay

I like B the best. I like the vine in it with the swirls.

  • Kathy

I like design C the best. Agreed all the designs are beautiful but C is a little different. The other two remind me of different versions of the same thing.

  • Linda Faulkner

I like C best. It is so different than most designs. It is very unusual.

I watch you use the magna hoop in shows and wish i could could have one…..It makes embroidery in the hoop look so easy. I love all your work…..

  • Sara Ruth Coates

    I like A the best

  • Sara Ruth Coates

    I like A best

  • Doree Shandera

If it is for a fall project definitely C. An anytime project would be B.
Loved the cards and numbers for your wedding.

  • Laura Szydlowski

I like A the best. I am partial to paisley print and Vintage style which design A has a vintage paisley look to it. The colors just “jumped out” at me and are very complimentary to the design.

  • Marilyn

Obviously these will all be very popular. Whichever one you choose to feature at this time, I hope you’ll do the other later. For now, I like “B” the best.

  • Terry Schultz

    I really like C!

  • Karen R

Love the wedding photos and hearing all the details. I have to go with B for the design I like best. I really like all of them but B is my first choice.

  • Laurie

I like B. love all your wedding ideas. I will be attending a wedding in July. I think I now have an idea or two for for the special couple. Love all the photos of your wedding. Thanks for sharing!

  • Edna

  • Sharon Aiken

    I really like “B”.

  • Jacque Lindsey

I love B – I love the colors and how it flows

  • Diana Akana

“B” would be the best choice. The colors could be formal or casual depending on what it would be used for. You make a beautiful bride by the way!

  • margaret fredericks

Design C…the words are a fun part of the design

  • Gail Beam

All three are definitely beautiful, but I think B is my favorite.
Loved all of your wedding ideas! Thank you so much for sharing them with us. Congratulations on your wedding, you were a beautiful bride.

  • Elaine

I like design B the best

  • Vicky

I like design B. It seems to have some cutwork in it.

  • Annette

I was immediately drawn to “b.” Because I love the color combination I imagined various colors, but “b” kept winning. Even my hubby chose “b,” and those are not his first choice of colors.

  • Starr Kanikeberg

“B” would be my choice. It is light and airy and could successfully be done with one or two colors also. I also like what looks like “net” stitching on it.
“A” seems too complicated for a modern item, and “C” really reminds me of shamrocks.

  • Susan Burns

B is my favorite design snd is done in my favorote color blue.

  • Cheri Lindsey

I think “C” is the better of the three. I like the satin stitching and the complexity of the design.

  • Melisa

I would pick “A” for a feature. It it different and fresh looking compared to all the other designs out there. B is so very Jacobean. It looks similar to so many others. I like C too but again the style and overall design are reminiscent of so many others. Making A a great feature design.

  • Lola Gerhard

I really like “C”. It’s a bit unusual and the color choices are striking. I could easily see this either as an edge design or combined for a larger project.

  • Barbara Rowlan Wong

Very difficult to make a decision. All are lovely but I finally decided that “B” was my final choice.
I am so enjoying the wedding photo and narrative. I don’t know how you were able to pull this off and work. My daughter’s wedding last April was lot of fun but also lots of work and with a wedding coordinator. Congrats again, and thank you for sharing your special day!

  • Linda Coleman

They are all so nice but I would choose C as I love the colours and tones in it

  • Mary Coonts

    I like Design A. – lovely.

  • Pam M

C uses “my” colours, but for some reason I’m going for A. It is a nice flowing design and I like the various shades of one colour. Sure would help to know what the project is, though LOL!

  • Carol

I like sample B. I love reading your blog and seeing the wonderful items you are enhancing with your embroidery skills.

  • mary moses

    I like A.

  • Debbie Reaves

What a sweet group of helpers you had and such a great wedding.
I’m choosing the middle one. I love the color placement and design.

    Take care,

  • Else

Though I don’t know for which type of work you are looking for an embroidery pattern, I definitely prefer B.
It’s light and open and still your eyes want to follow the pattern.
    love it!
    And congrats on your wedding!

  • Nancy Weber

I like design C the best. Congrats on your wedding. I can’t believe you did so much yourself (with some help, I know). You are such an inspiration! Hugs.

  • Shirley

Deinitely A; the other two are too close to many Jacobean designs I see. A stands out.

  • Sheryl Jones

I like them all, but have to go with B. Loved reading about the wedding. Congratulations!

  • P

    I like design “B”….

  • Ann's Fashion Studio

They are all pretty…. …….but to choose just one I will go with “B” .

  • Nell Summerlin

I think they all are beautiful but I personally prefer B. It seems to have a little more intricate detail to it. Congrats on your wedding and what great sisters you have to help with all that hard work. Beautiful ladies!

  • M Allen

Love all of them, but “A” is my favorite.

  • Jan K

I select Design A. It is a little different than most of those you see.

  • Cherrylmaree

I loved reading about your wedding. My second wedding involved friends and family and it made it so much more personal and special. I like all of the designs but would choose ‘B’.

  • Colleen Bell

I love the feathery detail in A, but I hope all three will be available for purchase.

  • Paulette

I would pick A. Main reason is that for people with small hoops it looked like it would be easier to split and for people that wanted to make a running border it would be easy to match up.

  • Marjorie Paul

I like A the best. It’s different than I’ve seen before. The colors appeal to me, but the designs an shapes are unusual.

  • bubbieone

    B B B!!!!!!!!!!!!
C has to much going on and so does A, although they are nice designs. Of course depends on the project, but B B B!!!!!!!!
Love the personal touches in your wedding. I LOVE to personalize everything, and sometimes people think I am nuts, as I have had cancer twice, and don’t always feel great. But the urge gets the better of me.
    Also I LOVE Urban Threads.
Congrats to a beautiful bride and may your marriage bring you the best in life.

  • Sheri

B would be my choice……many years of happiness to you both. You looked stunning!!!!

  • Donna

C reminds me of my collection of old Hall Ware. So I’d like to see projects done with that one. Although they are all beautiful so I can see why you would have a problem picking one over the others to work with.

Thanks for sharing pictures from you wedding day.

  • Laura Sexton

    I like A the best, I think. I keep vacillating…

  • Rosalee

Fabulous, beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Congrats! I prefer design A! Thanks!

  • Bonnie Gray

I love B, I can see it as a tone on tone border for a pillow case. Looking forward to meeting you and your sister in Mystic next week. So glad you are making it to New England!

  • Patty Sack

    I like design A.

  • Cynthia

I think A is to much all in one where you can not see nothing. B flows very well & seatle. C is ok to . I even thought of all them in other colors.B, C & not A. I thought about you in March getting married you told me back the last time you where in Denver. I’m so sorry I missed you this last time you & Marie where in Denver. I LOVE your events. Since I got into emb. I have been to two of your events. What a lovely neat wedding. Best wishes to you both. Can not wait till you guys come back to Denver! Both of you make the class a joy to be at.Love your emails too. Hope to see ya before long.

  • Sue

I like B, the color is fun, makes me feel good.

  • Ann

It’s hard to pick a design without knowing the project.
I would say A. It just seems to “flow” to me.

  • Linda S

B is definitely my choice. I love the color and the design of the flowers.

  • Gloria

It is a difficult decision but B is calling out to me! It may be the colors you used but I the vines add something to the design.

  • Nancy Stringer

Choice B is beautiful and the colors are fresh for spring/summer.

  • Jean Klein

All three designs are beautiful but I like B best as it is not as ornate and seems more modern looking. Will love to see what the project is.

  • Kim Harrington

I love the colors and the file t in B. Definitely my fav. PS you all look fabulous in the wedding pics. Congratulations Eilene! Kim

  • Jackie Branscum

I like A the best, don’t know why, not even my favorite colors but it caught my eye and I love it.

  • Betsy

Blue is my favorite color so B caught my eye. As I studied the designs, I found B was still my favorite particularly with the green vine.

  • Gena Allen

“C” is definitely my choice of the three.

  • Bernie Webre

All three are beautiful but “B” is my favorite.

  • Sandy Rockwell

    My selection is A

  • Dell

    B would be my choice.

  • Christina

I like “A” the best. I like the colors and the heart shaped flowers. Call me a romantic at heart. Congrats on the wedding.

  • claudine

I like B the best. All are pretty, but B is less busy and shows off the colors better.

  • sharon F.

Design B really jumped out at me! The other 2 designs kind of faded into the background compared to B.

  • Sharon Krulitz

I like B, it is not as “busy” as the other two, easier for the eyes to focus on.

  • Jo

I really like design “B” – and maybe would like design “c” in other colors – the brown is not working for me… All 3 are very pretty!

  • Kathy Martin

I like all 3 but “B” is my favorite. No matter which design you choose I know it will look fabulous!

  • Rosalyn

  • Dee Bratcher

I prefer design “B”. I love those flowers the best. It is more “open and inviting”.

  • Becky

Congrats on your wedding, and the tables look beautiful. My favorite is B. I like the way the vine wraps around everything and I like the open look of the flowers.

  • Georgia Brousseau

Design C seems to be somewhat Jacobean, similar to crewel embroidery which I love, but doing by hand is no longer easy for my fingers.

  • Debbie

What lovely wedding ideas and a beautiful wedding party!

I like design B best. I like the vines in the design and the color combo.

  • judy williamson

I like them all, but A just stands out!

  • Lori D.

    I love design B!
Loved all of your wedding details! Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
Congratulations on your wedding, you are a beautiful bride!

  • Susan Tiegs

    I like C the best!!!

  • sue shaw

Love “B”! The filagree within the flowers is gorgeous.

  • Alice Hook

I love design B. The fill stitches in the flowers are really different and the design itself seems less fussy than the other two. It’s beautiful!

  • Dolly D.

All three are beautiful, but I choose “C”! And thank you so much for sharing all those lovely pictures and wedding details! You have a great family!

  • Lillian Moser

I really like B the best–not only for the colors, but also because to me it seems to be more open and airy.
    Congratulations! Everything looks beautiful!

  • Connie Retherford

Congratulations on your marriage. Isn’t it wonderful to have such talented and fun sisters!
I prefer B, it is flowing and beautiful, not fussy.

  • Michelle Shook

They’re all beautiful, but I think my favorite design is C….have to admit, though, I’d probably do it in different colors.

  • Martha

I like “C”. There is something about its style that is a bit different– not what you see all the time.
Thanks for sharing your wedding and congratulations! I really enjoyed seeing all the pictures.

  • Anita McDaniel

I think the A design is the best. When you look at all it really pops.

  • Kathy

Choice A spoke to me. Loved the design and colors. Love your blog. You are so creative.

  • Sue

These wedding ideas are great at just at the correct time as I am preparing things for my niece’s wedding.

  • Sharon

I love the “quietness” of C. My best friend uses these earth colors for most of her quilts. I would make her something….she would love the design and colors!

  • Sandra

I like C the best, of course it could be that you picked my favourite colour combinations to do the sew out.
I found A was a bit too busy for me and B a bit too plain.

  • Karen

I like A best. Thanks for sharing all the great ideas and wedding pics.Congrats to you and Pete.

  • Beth R

I like the shapes and flow of ‘C’.

  • Cindy Voelz

I took a vote in my family and the overall winner was design A. Hope this helps with making a decision!

  • Nancy Owens

I really like B, of course a lot would depend on where it was going to be used!
Thank you so much for the photos and great ideas from your wedding. So often people we have grown to love through our Expo and Stitching Sisters experiences have great events in their lives and we don’t get to share, because we are not really in your circle of friends. So thanks for sharing. You look wonderfully happy and I am so glad for you,

    • eileenroche

Such kind words! Thank you Nancy.

  • Susie Mackenberg

My vote is for C. I like the symetry; C also reminds me of fuschias, one of my favorite plants.

I think A is perfect! Love the colors and the shapes of the blooms!

  • Diane

    Congratulations on the wedding!
    I like ‘B’, more spring/summery!
    thanks for all the inspiration

  • Cindy McCarty

It was tough, but I narrowed my choice to first B and C. Finally, I narrowed it to C. Of course, I am not sure what the application is, but purely based upon the design, C it is!

  • Christi

    I really like design A.

  • Susan

Enter MY vote for “B”… Love the cross-hatch centers!

  • Kath

I seem to be drawn to design A but it all depends on your project!

I choose B. I like that it isn’t as busy as the other two we have to choose from.

I love them all! I love Jacobean style designs. I think B is my favorite. I like the vines in that one. It depends on the project, too, I think.

  • Carol Seavitt

Just wanted to say that this posting is one of my favorite. Love that you shared your special wedding and all the preparations with us (your biggest fan). Just beautiful!!!

And I do like all three designs though I would probably go with C if you made me choose because it has a smaller design pattern than the other two.

Definitely, design B, I like the color combination. Would be helpful to know what project will be to decide for sure.Congrats to both you and husband…many years of happiness.

  • Donna G.

Congratulations on your wedding! It looks like a wonderful day! As for the designs, I like C best, with B a close second.

  • Veronica Pesson

I like Design A the most. A magnahoop would be awesome!

  • [email protected]

    Definitely B!

  • Whitney H

    I’m all about ‘B’.

  • Mitzi Barker

wishing you much joy….it’s always fun to see weddings “designed” by people with a few more years of living and ideas than we may have had in our 20s.

    I like design “C” 🙂

    • Cecelia

I like A,it reminds me of hearts.

  • Mary Gordon

I think I will go with C. A, while pretty colors seems a little “fussy”. B seems a little “standard”. C is just open enough to be interesting.

  • Maria

I would like A but in B’s colors!

  • Imelda Delgado

I am going with b, i like the airy lace like design and I love the color combination.

  • Jennifer j

For sure B. A is just too much and c is a close second on too much, they are kind of heavy. Like the lighter touch of B. Plus I’m a sucker for blue.

  • Sandra Wesssell

I like C, any of them could go in another colorway but this one is just plain classy. Thanks for all you do for all of us.

  • Audrey Harrill

I like both “B” and “C” however, I think “C” has more possibilities with color combinations.

  • Pat

“B” How can you beat paisley and swirly flowers?

  • Jane Anderson

I like “C”…it said “good luck” when I saw it.

  • Carol Heldmaier

I liked design C the best. I enjoyed reading and seeing pictures of your wedding. Best Wishes to you both.

  • Meg greena

The colors and the boldness of B really make a statement to me. The colors gel nicely too. Just love the teal withthelime green.

  • Camille Lauderdale

With Spring in the air and Summer just around the corner the lightness and flowing style of B is a winner in my eyes. I do also think C might work for a heavier look in Fall/Winter, but for now definitely B.

Thank you for sharing your happy day with everyone. Your sisters are a treasure! Best wishes to you and your husband for a long and joyful journey together.

  • Kathy Colwell

I am really drawn to design B. I have been experimenting with ways to use mylar in my embroidery and this looks like a perfect design for mylar behind the flowers! What a nice border it would become. So far I’ve only tried the opal color, but colors would look fabulous!

    Congratulations Eileen & Pete!

  • Jane Foltz

It was hard to choose, but I decided on B. I like the colors used in B and the design is a little simpler than A and C.

Congratulation on your wedding and thanks for sharing your photos.

  • Doreen

I like them all but I pick design A

  • Dianne Anderson

I like B best. They are all pretty, but something about B speaks to me.

  • Dianne Anderson

I like B best. They are all pretty but B just speaks to me.

  • TC

I like ‘B’, it has clean lines and distinctive design.

  • Paule-Marie

I like all of them but I would choose B over the other two. I love Jacobean embroidery, used to do it by hand many many moons ago. That’s what B makes me think of.

  • Janice Cochran

Best wishes for a long and happy married life. I tend to worry a decision to death so must stick with my first choice — B!

  • Djuana Hamner

B would be my first choice; A my second; C my thrid. I love the colors in B.

  • Carol Walter

    B is my choice

  • Jean Boothe

I like B the best. Congrats on your wedding!!

  • Adrienne King

I really like C; it’s different and really caught my eye! Has many possibilities for various uses, in my opinion.

  • Lucy M

I like B the best. I’m not sure what you are using it for, but B looks like it would be beautiful as a tone on tone design on a table cloth, napkin or any linen. I like the satin stitch leaves and scrolls, which make it look very elegant.

  • Kat B

    I love B

  • Tammie Wallace

Such a lovely wedding. Thanks for sharing some of it with us. Congratulations! As for the designs, I really like C for both the design and color scheme.

  • Paula Roney

All of the designs are pretty, but Design C is my favorite. It pops, but it is also neutral.

  • sue brockus

I vote for C. The color combination is very appealing and the soft swirls given me the sensation of a gentle wave on the ocean.

  • Barbara McGrath

Congratulations on your wedding you looked beautiful – I like design B

  • Anne Kahn

I like “A” the best. Perhaps because it’s red and kind of heartsy looking.

  • Val U

I love C the best. They are all nice. I’m looking forward to seeing how it will be used. I enjoyed the blog about the wedding. What a wonderful day to remember with friends and family all a part of it.

  • Pat

I really like C it is so simple and soft

    I love C
    Very nice wedding blog

  • Melissa McWhite

Wow – what a lovely wedding! It is so nice to have real sisters and heart sisters to help create such a memorable day. I really liked the embroidered table scarf – beautiful for the cake table on your wedding day and in the future for you to use for anniversaries!

I liked the B design best – less dense than the others and so pretty!
    Melissa in SC

  • Linda De A

I think B is my favorite design because it is colorful and it has a simplistic elegance.

  • phyllis abinanti

I think design “C” should win. It’s simply gorgeous. This is
what I think machine embroidery should look like.

  • MJ

A the colors are very appealing. The rounded shapes are more relaxing and inviting. 🙂

  • Marilyn Weiss

    Hi Eileen,

Congratulations! You look radiant. Best wishes always.

Love B. I can think of so many ways to use it–feels like spring and summer to me, but it could be just the colors. Looking forward to meeting you and Marie at Stitching Sisters this weekend in Mystic, CT. We are all SOOOO excited. Not many sewing celebrities visit CT and I’m sure it will be a blast. Got my notebook and my checkbook ready! See you in a few days.

    • eileenroche

Hi Marilyn – thanks for your kind words! Marie & I are can’t wait to get to Mystic! See you on Friday!

  • Mary

C is my favorite, followed by B. I hate A!!

  • M. Crowder

All are beautiful, but B is definitely my fav. It reminds me somewhat of a thistle bloom, a Scottish icon, and being of Scottish descent, I favor this one.

  • Shirlene Renshaw

    I really like “A”.

  • Denise B

I like B because I love the colors of blue and green together.

  • Pat

I like A. I like to use things for lots of projects it reminds me of a heart. You can use hearts for holidays and weddings. I would like to see it done on black with reds and also on teal in the colors shown.
    I love new projects!

  • Nianne G

I like C. I like the colors and love the graceful lines.

  • Goldie G

My preference is B. I find the lines and shapes and colors to be extremely pleasing to the eye. This should look wonderful on the next project.

  • Rachel Price

I love all of the, but A is my favorite!! I love the hearts and pink is my favorite color.

  • Judy Wentz

I like design B; it reminds me of Jacobean flowers.

  • Jeanene B

Keep up the great work & congrats on your Wedding. The photos look awsome.
My favorite design is ‘B’ (however, I am partial to Jacobean). All of them are very nice but I like the openness of B – & the coloring.

  • denise

I had a hard time deciding between b or c. I ended up going with b mostly for the colors that remind me of summer but if it is for fall definitely c !!

  • Tonya

A is my favorite, I really love hearts so the center design being hearts makes it special to me. I can see this design done in a pretty pink and brown which were the colors my daughter choose for her wedding. BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • Denise Jensen

I like design C as it has an elegant and rich look. Denise

  • Anna

I like Design B. It has an easy, uncomplicated flow that would make it a perfect choice for embroidering the full length of a shawl collar of a jacket. It would be equally adaptable to embellish a casual jacket or a more formal jacket.

  • Jill H

I like Design B the best. I like the flower motif and of course the colors.

  • Ellie M Swigart

I really like them all! In fact, I would like for you to send them to me so I could use them on guest towels that I use for gifts for our missionaries………….who by the way love all the work I do on my Janome 10001~ guess what………….I would really use them!
Congrats on the wedding………may you be blessed!!!!!!!!!
    Ellie Swigart

  • Debra

I would have to pick the B design even though I like all 3.
Also my daughter is getting married in October of this year. I would love to make her a set of linen napkins. Can anyone tell me the best place to find the appropriate linen fabric for the napkins?

  • Jan V

My choice is A. I really love all three and they could easily be featured on clothing, as well as endless home decor projects. I am not a fan of the black for contrast in A-maybe a darker taupe in lieu of the black. Congratulations on your wedding!

  • Sandy Brackett

I like all three, but really like B the best – there
again it depends on the project.

  • Dale Fedor

I like C best. It reminds me of autumn, but if you change the colors to shades of green/yellow it could then look like spring.

  • twila wright

Think #3 is the best,… How clever you are to all these decorations. I like to make towels with their name on them plus a design…

  • Doreen

    I prefer ‘C’

  • joyce james

It’s a hard choice but I like B best. The other designs seem slightly busy to me. I’m have enjoyed you sharing your wedding decorations great inspiration!

  • Tris Thompson

I like A I like the detail and the colours.
Second choice B for it’s simplicity.

  • Linda Killi

My favorite design is probably A, (although I like them all).
I make several things that are a hit at bridal showers: Monogrammed table napkins; Monogrammed pillow cases; but the biggest hit with the bride is a wedding gown patch which includes the bride and groom’s first names, their new monogram, and the date of their wedding as well as a card with a poem about stitching the patch into the lining of her wedding gown.

  • Claudia Lee

All the designs are beautiful, my favorite is design B. The classic leaves on stems won me over. I am partial to the colors used as well as the lovely swirls of paisley and the Jacobean flowers. The design has a rich and lovely flow.

  • Janice Then

All of the designs are nice but I think A is so different from all the rest. I think you would be limited as to what you could use design B on being that it is a jacobean design. The way A is stitched out you could not only use it as an embroidery but stitch it out and use it as an applique on things, in other words you could use it in two different ways.
May you and your new husband have a long and happy life!

  • Janice

I love “A” It seems to call my name and say use me. It is a bright fun design with a hint of shyness about it. Of course like a lot of people, I also like “B” and “C”. What fun designs.

  • Deb

    I like design B.

  • Jean

Design B gets my vote. Love the more simplistic yet dainty look.

  • Doreen

For me, it’s A for sure! I can see paisley and hearts in it. The others are too “jacobean”! (love your wedding photos – Congratulations)

  • Sandi Bauer

My favorite is B. I love all of it..the colors, the design, it just seems to “flow”.

  • Bobbie

My vote is for design A

  • Linda Crown

Design B is my favorite. It is a little more open.

My daughter will be married two years this May 15. For her wedding, I machine embroidered three different table runners, made and monogramed her wedding veil, two ring bearer pillows, hanky, purse, money bag, and garter. I also embroidered basket liners to use in the restrooms, wedding, and reception areas. Sewing for Leia’s wedding added a special and unique touch that had “Mom” written all over it (with her approval of course).

Congratulations on your big day and being able to share it with your family and friends. Defintely a memory of a lifetime.

  • Carol Foriest

I like selection “B”, with the cross stitch look. It’s so hard to find really good cross stitch designs for the embroidery machine, and this one is very elegant while remaining light and airy.

  • Vera Anderson

I LOVE C. The colors are great. The design is both compact and airy and flows nicely as a continuous design. I’d really like to put that as a boarder around the robe and blanket on one of my horse costumes, maybe with creme/beige and copper fabrics. And I have one with those colors that I’m working on right now. Wonderful!

    Then again, B is lovely.

And A is just striking, what with the color combination.

Do you *really* have to choose just *one*??? 🙂

  • Gloria M

All three designs are clean and beautiful, but my personal choice is Design C. It is one that I can see not only on borders, pants, skirts, table runners , etc. but it is also very appealing as a middle eastern and asian motif- one to be used in decorating beautiful gowns as well as a centerpiece or mantle piece giving richness and serenity to any room.
Congratulations on your very special day.

  • Wendy Scott

    I like “A”

  • judi

I was drawn to design B…the colors and the less cluttered look.

  • Eloisa

I like B and C. I will do B like a cut work or like lace. What is the project?

    Congratulations on your special day!

  • Debbie

I like A the best it reminds me of hearts – so it could be used for different occassions by just changing the colors. I like designs that are very versatile. Congrats on your wedding. Everything looked beautiful.

  • Ellen Perry

I love red (a) but b really calls me… I love the colors but also love the shape f he flowers too

  • Donna

I like A because the other 2 look similar to other designs of this type and A seems very different.

  • obimom

Final choice — C. Congrats on your wedding.

  • Lynn

My answer is C–Lookes like an original.
C is so different–I feel like I have already used parts of A & B.

  • Clem

Thanks for sharing your wedding pictures. I just loved all of those hankies you received from Mary Mulari. They are beautiful. I have seen her (and you) on Sewing with Nancy.

I like A but in B colors, but keep the black that is in A. Love it.

Will you ever make it to Columbus, Ohio? I have moved there in January of this year and sure miss all of my stitching sisters and friends. I sure would love to see more out here.

  • Cheryl W-C

My favorite is “B”. Love all your wedding touches. Met you and your sister in Denver a couple of years ago for a wonderful 2 day workshop. It was fabulous!

  • Linda

I can’t wait to see what project you are working on this time. This is my first reply on your site. Would love to see what ever the surprise is with border “B”.

  • Wendy

I love Design C; I can’t wait to see your newest project. Your wedding was beautiful and so nice to see the involvement of the whole family. It makes it so special to share such a beautiful occasion with those you love the most!

  • Susan Barry

    I like design B.

  • dee lowe

Gosh is she ever going to come back & tell us what she chose?

  • Clem

At Dee Lowe… I agree… I am waiting for her choice also and what is she going to do with it… Waiting….;-) and will the other designs be available even if she does not choose them? Just wondering… lol

  • eileenroche

Oh…that’s the problem with my job! So much of the work I do is months in advance. But yes, the designs will be available (all of them) and the first project was a shirt! That’s all I’m saying!

    • Clem

I am very intrigued…can’t wait to see it…

  • Melissa

    I like B!

  • Sandra

    I like B the best.

  • Laura

I like “B” for a summer project. The vinyness is veryappealing, lite and refrseshing. Most definatly a winner there.

  • sonja

I like B and C, B isn’t as busy as the other two, but resemble Jacobean, but C really catches my eye, they all would look great, done with tone on tone i bet would change the look too, TMI, but i guess if i must choose it would be B …….No ……C hard choice since i don’t know what you are going to use it on I choose…..C C Would look good on the hem of a linen dress?

  • Nuala

I like A and C but would choose “C” first I like the clean lines of it.

  • Ann

Like B. Larger shapes are more attractive.

By the way for last week: I make an embroidered satin zippered bag with a piece of crystal–a small goblet or glass. The glass pieces are safely contained when the groom pounds his foot on it and everyone shouts ‘Mazel Tov’ then the glass pieces can be made into an acrylic keepsake. They symbolize the never-take-apart-again nature of marriage.

  • Debra Alden

Thanks for sharing the Wedding pictures.

I like all three but B really stands out.

  • Anne west

I really liked C the best I also like the color choices that you chose

  • Joanne Cook

I like the light airy feeling of B the best and the delicateness of it.

  • Ruby White

    I like design B.

  • Beth Titus

I love B. I like the colors and the balance.

  • Phyllis

I like C the most. I think it is well balanced and the colors speak to me!

  • Denise Z. G.

I like them all, but I like design B best.

  • Claire

Definitely like B…it stands out without being to busy. Of course I guess that really depends on what it is being used for. Nice work.

  • Deb MacPhail

    B. it is the prettiest, to me. It seems neutral enough to go on anything.

  • James Samuel

Thanks for the information about creating name tags for wedding purpose. You created name tags for your wedding in a fabulous way..

  • Gloria Hembree

B would be my first choice

  • Karen

I like all of them but my favourite is A. It has a good balance of lightl and dense embroidery and I like the colours too.

Many congratulations on your wedding. I wish you a long, healthy and happy marriage.

  • Elaine

My preference is definitely B. I like the proportion of this design. It would make a beautiful border.

Congratulations on your recent marriage, wishing you both much happiness.

  • Rosemary Kelley

2494 Hwy, 5 North,Mountain Home, Ar.72653 Congratulations on your wedding.GOD bless you both. I .liked them all but I liked A THE BESTbut I liked B’s colors best.thank you

  • Leatrice Suggs

Hello! Do you know if they make any plugins to protect against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any recommendations?

  • Roman Hornaday

Thank you, I’ve recently been searching for info about this topic for ages and yours is the greatest I’ve discovered so far. But, what about the bottom line? Are you sure about the source?

  • Denise

I like the shapes in C the best – not so paisley-esque.
I liked the colors in B the best.
Least liked A – only because it screamed valentines day with the colors and heart shapes. Too limiting for anything other than that “holiday”

    • Claire Fisher

Saw nothing new in this post…one of the reasons I no longer subscribe to Machine embroidery magazine. I don’t make clothing any more due to sizes of patterns and need everyday items made more special.

  • peg

I really ‘t wait like B can’t wait to see the project. Thanks

  • thanks for posting.
