As I make the final stitches on projects for 2011 and excitedly plan next year’s lineup of editorial themes I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all my readers! Without your loyalty and active participation on this blog, on Facebook and through the print magazine, Designs wouldn’t be the company it is today! Thank you for inspiring and motivating me. I wouldn’t be here without you!
It seems you have also inspired Denise Holguin, Managing Editor of Designs! She’s penned this clever poem – a perfect start for the New Year. – Eileen Roche
A Machine Embroiderer’s Poem
By Denise Holguin
I know I should be sweeping the floor
But I can’t help but skip right out the door.
Today the mail carrier has delivered bills and something more.
My Designs in Machine Embroidery magazine has arrived.
It gives me inspiration—it makes me feel alive!
Oh the pleasure and inspiration I will derive!
There’s a project by Eileen Roche and Nancy Zieman…what a delight.
I wonder if my husband would give me a look of fright
If I told him I was escaping to my favorite sewing room chair
And gaze happily through the magazine pages without worry or a care.
“Oh I will make that blanket,” I exclaim with delight!
And look there’s a quick in-the-hoop gift I can stitch by next Friday night!
There’s something pretty and lacy I can stitch for Aunt Stacy
There’s even a stylish men’s shirt that’s not over-the-top crazy!
For now I must return to my husband and children
But I’ll make it my goal, it’ll be my 2012 mission
To etch a little more ‘me’ time to embroider and sew
It’ll be my opportunity to learn and grow!

13 years agoLoved your poem….. so I thought how could I express my own thoughts ..so here is my take
ideas galore to my delight as I leaf through
my newest magazine of designs
I ponder and ponder, which idea to choose,
decisions decisions, which one should I choose,
This one or that one I can’t make up my mind
so on to the next magazine of designs.
Dinner is late, BUT wait, Oh my,
just a moment I got it now!
I will make my choice to everyones delight.
I take off in a flurry to gather supplies,
My heart just a beating with much delight.
As soon as I start my heart is in a rush
With anticipation to find just another right one.

13 years agoGreat Poem! I can totally relate. Not much gets done the day my Designs in Machine Embroidery magazine shows up in the mail. I get so self absorbed, but then I’m energized and full of ideas so I get the cleaning done quick and get to stitchin’!

13 years agoThank you for the poem Denise and all your inspiration Ellen. I went to a sewing sisters seminar in Mesa this year (2011) with my mom and found such inspiration and connection with fellow sewers. Love the magazine, the blog, your contests and find this hobby to be ‘sew rewarding’! Happy New Year to you and your staff!

13 years agoLoved the poem. When my magazine arrives life stops until I quickly scan the magazine and nine times out of ten I just read it cover to cover then resume whatever I was originally doing.
