Spend a few inspiring minutes browsing embroidery boards on Pinterest and you’ll spot a monogrammed shirt pocket. Define your search a bit to monogrammed pockets and you’ll find dozens, maybe hundreds of images. Inspiration abounds!
Here’s how to add a monogram to a pocket. And yes, it does involve a seam ripper. Remove the pocket from the shirt. Leave the stitches at the top left pocket in place to make it easier to align after the embroidery. Find and mark the center of the pocket. I used a target ruler and target sticker.
Hoop adhesive tear-away stabilizer or water-activated tear-away, I used water activated tear-away. Sponge a little water over the hooped surface to activate the adhesive. Place the hoop under PAL, the Perfect Alignment Laser, aligning the laser crosshair with the hoop’s horizontal and vertical center marks. Slide the pocket onto the stabilizer, aligning the target sticker with the laser crosshair. Smooth the pocket onto the sticky surface.
Gently lift and carry the hoop to the machine. Attach the hoop to the machine and support the weight of the shirt on the machine table. Do not let the shirt extend over the table. As the monogram stitches, make sure the shirt stays out of the sewing field.
Remove the hoop from the machine.
Carefully remove the excess stabilizer. Press the pocket and reposition it on the shirt. Topstitch the pocket to the shirt in matching thread.

11 years agoI would love to have either the Debra Jones DVDs for stabilizing or hooping. I have no problem with stabilizing for applique, but for regular embroidery on woven fabrics I sometimes have problems.

11 years agoI would love the monster hoop in a large size. I want to do my quilts with it. Currently I use a small magnet hoop (not one of yours) that I got for my machine but it isn’t big enough for everything I want to do. I like to do the boarders and I want it to be able to stitch continuous designs or more than one in a hooping. With my small magnet hoop it makes it very difficult. At the full price of the monster hoop is $189.00. My hubby would have a heart attack if I spent that much on a hoop!

11 years agoI love the Quick-Snap frames for multi-needle machines. I probably have some of the first sets made and replaced adaptors several times. But they are still the hoops I use the most. Of course I have two of the monster hoops, too and am anxiously waiting to see what Eileen will come up with next. I have the support arm, too and it is a very good investment. It is excellent for a machine that has no support table. And speaking of placement kits, I have the multi-purpose one and the children’s. They are both well-worn.

11 years agoMy dream item from the DME site is QuickSnap for the Babylock 6-needle machine. That would make my life so much easier and really provide relief from the pain and awkwardness rheumatoid arthritis has caused in my hands. Some days traditional hoops are more than I can handle, and the ease of use of the QuickSnap would be heavenly.

11 years agoI can’t remember the difference between the snap hoop and the quick hoop? I would love either one of these for my 10 needle. I would also love the designer neckline. Do you have anything for placement for above shirt pockets or shirts without pockets? I have seen one or two, but it seems the sizes only go as large as the xl. I know several people who are 3x and 4x. Thanks

11 years agoI have to choose just one?! 🙂 Since I am fairly new to machine
embroidery, I would say my top five are 1) Perfect Placement Kit, 2)
Perfect Alignment Laser 3) Target Stickers 4) the book Machine Embroidery in 6 Easy
Lessons and 5) the book Embroidery Studio Organization in 6 Easy Steps.
Thanks for all the great information on your blog. You are my number one
go-to site for great information and inspiration!!

11 years agoI love the font and find it so interesting how different fonts appeal to different people. I own an Ety shop called Southern-Linens and so far my work only includes monogrammed linens of all kinds. I haven’t attempted a shirt pocket yet, but you make it look pretty doable.
