The Stitching Sisters are making their way across the US! Come join the fun!

Eileen's Machine Embroidery BlogI can’t wait to meet you!

Have you been itching to ramp up your machine embroidery skills? A two-day event may be just the thing you need to breathe new life into your hobby. My Stitching Sister, Marie Zinno, and I travel the country to teach hands-on team embroidery classes which feature twelve hands-on projects that cover tons of techniques – everything from terrycloth to continuous machine embroidery. Take a look at what you can expect.

Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

We kickoff the event with a behind the scenes look at Designs followed by our Hooping Clinic. Marie and I hoop over 30 items in standard machine embroidery hoops, Magna-Hoops, Snap-Hoop and border hoops. We discuss why you select each hoop and what to do when you don’t have the ideal hoop. Attendees find this information priceless. One recent attendee in Puyallup, WA said, “I could walk out of here after this lecture and feel I got every penny worth of admission.” Here’s what some other attendees have had to say:

Eileen and Marie,
Thanks so much for coming to KC! LOVED the event and all your stories/energy. WOW! It was awesome to have 2 days to get to study under you and learn so much. LOVE the Stipple products and techniques. Looking forward to seeing you again!

Judy Brennan

Eileen and Marie,
We had so much fun in Atlanta. The information you gave and taught us was immeasurable. You two are definitely gifted in your talent and love for the embroidery industry.
Best blessings in everything you done.
Signed Had fun in Atlanta,

Jackie Wallace

Hey Everyone! I’d highly recommend going to the Sewing Sisters Event if you get the chance. I live in Oregon and I went to Puyallup WA with my friend from Longview WA. We had a great time! I personally never won anything but I did receive a wealth of knowledge and inspiration not to mention all the fun ladies I met and new friendships made. The projects we did were great and we got the CD-rom to go home to make more. I’m really looking forward to the next event! Thanks Eileen and Marie!! It was great meeting you!
Jane

Marie and I cover tons of embroidery challenges during our two-day, hands-on, team-sewing events: what to do when your fabric pops out of the hoop, stitching on terrycloth, vinyl, sheers, quilting with an embroidery machine, stitching multiples (and getting them to match!) are just a few of the 50 techniques we cover. Attendees use all of Designs in Machine Embroidery products – everything from Magna-Hoop Jumbo to Snap-Hoop to placement kits and learn how to set themselves up for success and navigate on the machine like a pro.

You’ll learn three ways to do continuous hooping and find out what methods works best for your machine and your project. You’ll meet PAL – and see how this helpful little tool can make hooping square a breeze. Treat yourself to two-days of embroidery fun and education – you’ll go home with a smile on your face and some newfound knowledge that you’ll be inspired to put into immediate action.

Why don’t you join us? We’ll be hitting the road and landing in a town near you! This weekend finds us in Fresno, CA at Authorized Sew & Vac. There’s still room – click here for more information. http://www.authorizedvacandsew.com/

We are so excited to head back to BSew Inn in Tulsa, OK. It’s been a couple of years since our last visit so we are very excited to share our new techniques and projects. Mary Hess at BSew Inn is bringing in only the top of the line machines for you to use during the event. You’ll pampered in the lush educational environment of BSew Inn.

After Tulsa, we head right to Pittsburgh – a first for the Stitching Sisters. Amy Baughman is hosting the two-day event at Cranberry Township, PA. Click here for more information on the Feb 10-11 event http://www.amybaughman.com/

After Pittsburgh, we’re taking some time off because I’m getting married! The nuptials take place March 24th and I’ll be back from my honeymoon in plenty of time for the Spring Stitching Sister events. We have three exciting locations this spring:

Rocky Mountain Sewing & Vacuum April 13-14

We can’t get enough of the Rocky Mountains! Join us for two-fun filled days – sure to be full of special door prizes if I know the crew at Rocky Mountain Sewing!

Daines Cotton Shops April 27-28

This is a first-time visit for the Stitching Sisters to Salt Lake City, UT. We can’t wait to connect with all the stitchers in the Salt Lake area! I know from Designs’ subscriber list that embroidery is alive and well in Utah!

Schiller’s Sewing Circle May 10-11

We’re heading to charming, scenic Mystic, CT. Since Marie and I grew up on the east coast we are really looking forward to teaching in Connecticut. This lovely seaside resort is definitely a vacation destination. Bring your hubby – there’s lots to explore and enjoy!

Here’s your assignment this week:

If you could have a one-hour private machine embroidery lesson with me, what would you want to learn?  Tell me and you could win one of two $100 gift certificates from Bunnycup Embroidery.
Eileen's Machine Embroidery Blog

The winner of last week’s assignment answered the following question:

So tell me, would you use the Table Keeper for a Kindle, Nook, iPad or traditional paper notebook? Leave your comment and you’ll be in the running to win a PAL – Perfect Alignment Laser. Don’t know what that is? Click here to read more about it.

And the winner of a new Perfect Alignment Laser is… Frances Medina!  Her comment below was randomly drawn as this week’s prize winner.

“I have the Nook Color and I would make a Tablet Keeper for myself as well as my granddaughter.  She has the first Nook.  Also several other family members have the Kindle so I will be very busy making birthday gifts.  The design you created will make it look professional.  Thanks.” – Frances Medina

I would like to learn to use my Palette 6.0 that has been sitting in a box since I purchased it more than five years ago when I purchased my Babylock Ellegante. And why the material pops out of the hoop. I love embroidering but hate having to throw away items.

I would love to start at the beginning again…I feel like I have picked up some bad habits along the way and would love to start all over from scratch.

  • Mary Haggenmaker

I am always ready to learn anything and everything that I can. Have been embroidering for about 11 years now but I know there are better ways to do everything so I would love to learn all I can. So far the closest you seem to be coming is Pittsburgh which is a 5 hour drive from Southern Maryland. At age 76 that is not much of an option. Wish you could come down here. We have a really good Babylock dealer in Clinton by the name of Maryland Sew-Vac. Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.

  • Linda Coleman

I would love to learn what stabilisers I should be using with different fabrics

  • Beth R

One hour wouldn’t be enough for all my questions LOL! I’d love to get some tips on how to determine what fabrics are suitable for a design (it’s not one size fits all, is it?), and also how to decide if a stabilizer is good or not (is there a difference between a ‘cheap’ stabilizer and are there differences between the brand names). That’s just for starters!

  • Pam Marshall

I am just starting out and am desperate to learn all that I can. My local shop promises classes but their new ones for novices are not yet on the schedule. I’m hoping that you’ll be coming to the Philadelphia, PA area.

      Thanks!

  • Dottie W

I would love to learn how to use the endless/continuous hoop that came with my machine. I have beautiful Cornucopia continuous design from Singer. Every fall I think I am going to tackle it, but 5 years later and it hasnt happened yet. Maybe an hour lesson would do the trick.

  • Cindy Amend

I would just love to learn how to keep my embroidery from puckering on knits. Actually I would love to learn anything that you would be willing to tell me. Hope to see you in St. Louis this year.

  • Sandy Walker

When will you be in Chicago?

  • Dale Fedor

Please come to the SW suburb of Chicago. I would like to know more about stabilizers & my Magna-hoop.

  • Irene Clark

I would like to try the PAL. i have a hard time centering my projects. I am 79 years old and am having a blast with my embroidery machine. I would love to have you come close to Redding CA and do one of your classes. Love your blogs.

  • Marilyn

I would like to learn which are the best stabilizers to use for each type of project (and then be able to get rid of the rest.) I’d like to learn how to correct a design which is too dense, or at least learn how to recognize it so I don’t try to use it. I’d like to know how to use the latest gadgets/devices which should make my embroidery life easier and ignore those which are just gimmicks. I have soooo much to learn!

  • Susan

I would love to have you come to the midwest with your lessons. I would especially like to learn to properly hoop and stabilize my fabrics. It is sometimes a source of irritation to me. Thanks for the chance to win and how about coming to the Corn Palace Town!!

  • Anita Rodgers

I would like to learn more about endless hooping. I want to use it for quilt borders especially. I live in the
Dallas area and would love to see you at something local. Congratulations on you upcoming wedding, wishing you the best!

  • Sue Duisenberg

I would like to learn more about matching up endless stitching. i have tried putting designs on t-shirt necklines. thanks for that info.

  • Patricia Chambers

I have a magna-Hoop and am hesitant to use it. I know there is a way to embroidery endless embroidery. I just bought a Pal. Need some help with that along with the Magna- Hoop. I am 78 and started embroidering a couple of years ago. It takes me a little longer to digest it all. Help.

  • Margaret Pepper

I have the Magna Hoop but have never used it. I also have the Super Giant Hoop it all and have never used it either. I am self taught because we moved right after I bought my first Embroidery machine and I could not get my lessons. I now have a newer machine but it was given to me by my sister. I do a lot of Embroidery but just have been afraid to use these other hoops.

  • Becky

I really enjoyed the Texas Sewdown several years ago, but would love to do a “hands on” weekend. I rarely see you do anything in Texas though. Any plans to bring the Stichin Sisters to the Dallas or Austin area? The hooping session sounds great…..especially continuous hooping.

  • Patricia Phaiah

I would love to learn continuous hooping, plus anything else. I would like to know it all!!!!

  • Cathy

I would love to learn more about continuous embroidery as I am trying to prefect my skills in this area to use when making sweet baby layette items. Magna Hoops are another area I would like to be able to use. Will you be coming to the Indianapolis area anytime soon. Thanks Much

  • Jean Berryessa

I had so much fun with the two of you at Eddie’s Sewing Bee in Mt View last November. I have been embroiderying for 12 years and learned so much that I could not believe. I would love to be a bee on a flower in your studio and learn anykthing that you are working on. You have so much to share and so little time. I am still trying to believe that I can quilt and bring it all together with my machine embroidery. Two hours learning anything from you.

    • eileenroche
      AUTHOR

Oh such sweet thoughts, Jean! Wasn’t Eddie’s Sewing Bee a blast? Marie and I had a great time at the sewing studio overlooking the 18th green!

  • Lu Davis

I would like to start from the beginning. I am new to the digitized embroidery world and am trying to learn on my own. Consequently I know that there is a better and more efficient way of getting the job done!!! I’m so excited about this NEW WORLD!!

  • Rusty

I would like to know if there is a hoop made specifically for embroidering on knit beanies and also one for baseball caps to use with my Brother Quattro2. Also tips and tricks you have discovered! Great blog, I love reading it. Come to Redding, CA; its a wonderful place 🙂

  • Jackie

I would love to learn how to split a design and then have it stitch out as originally digitized, it’s hit and miss…mostly miss for me.

  • Paule-Marie

I would like a lesson in digitizing and using the software I can get for my Ellisimo. It would definitely be an incentive to get the software, finally. And if we could sneak in a quick lesson on the endless hoop, that would be great.

  • Denice

I am in the majority here as I would be tickled pink to have a personal lesson on endless hooping and centering designs.
Very best wishes on your up comming wedding. Now for the tough question (time and comitments being a big issue) did you make and embroider your own dress? Would love to see pictures if you did.

  • Donna G.

I’d love to learn how to combine designs into one integrated design. I try to avoid the “plop and drop” look, but sometimes fall short of my mark. I learn so much from looking at your creative work! Congratulations on your wedding, too!

  • Christina

I would love to learn about endless hooping and some tips on what stabilizers are appropriate for what materials and designs. I also would like to know some basics about digitizing and what programs you like and are easy to use.

  • Sue A.

So many things, so little time!! Having to work for a living really gets in the way of sewing! 🙂 I would love to learn how to rehoop for endless borders. I would love to learn how to be more creative with embroidery. I would love to learn how to edit designs and combine designs without fear! I would love to learn how to incorporate embroidery with quilting. I would love to learn, learn, learn.

  • Amanda

Hmmm well I am new to embroidery but having so much fun learning and of course making mistakes along the way. I think I’d love to learn about ensuring accurate placement and multiple hooping for continuous designs. Hopefully that way I’d avoid making bigger, more costly mistakes :o))))

  • Tammy

I would love to learn to stabilize anything to embroider on.

  • Angie Gonzales

I would love, love, love, to learn the designer bags!

  • Leslie S.

I want to know EVERYTHING you know about embroidery, but since it would be limited to an hour I think I would like to learn more about embroidery on sheer fabrics, digitizing, endless hoops, embroidery on different media, matching stabilizers to fabric and needles, getting the results I want the first time, hmmm….guess I wouuld need more than an hour!

  • Kim Courville

I would love to know the right stabilizer to use with what fabric and the best way to hoop it.

  • Rosalee Suchsland

It would definitely be hooping. I would like to be much more creative, and as I live in a rural area, am mostly self taught. I need help! rosalee

  • Jill Rust

I would love to learn how to make cool bags and vests. I am such a newbie that anything you teach would be wonderful though!

  • Linda B

Have been away from machine embroidery for a bit and just now getting back to it. Would enjoy a “catch up” for all the new stuff on the market. Also am loving the Snap Hoop idea but don’t see one for the Janome 9000. Any ideas or suggestions? Always looking for a faster, easier way to hoop.

    Thanks for all you share

  • Gail Beam

I would love to learn how to do continuous hooping and multiple hooping of designs.

  • Nataly

    Tension, tension and tention

  • Carol Seavitt

Mom and I had a ball with the Stitching Sisters in Mesa this past year. You two have such a great teaching style. And if I had a lesson with you…hmmm …. I would love a one-on-one for your multiple in-the-hoop monogramming. I usually just use one small hoop and re-hoop each burp cloth, towel, etc…bet PAL would work? Anyway, I have to tell you I love your Jan/Feb ‘Designs’ (Vol 72). So many projects!!!! Love them:)))

  • Nancy

I would like to try some more “risky” techniques: bobbin work or using cutwork needles — I would also like to learn how to create my own in-the-hoop projects

  • Karen

    Everything you could cram in!

  • Rachel D

I would want to learn to about the correct stabilizers to use with the different types of materials and haven’t tried multi- hooping yet, where I have to line everything up perfect yet. Has scared me away from a couple of things I would really like to do.

  • jeanne

An hour of private embroidery lesson to learn all I could, use of: stabilizer,PAT, borders (sizing design) and of course metalic thread problems. I would share with my embroidery club where all are welcome no matter of sewing/embroidery experience or embroidery machine owned. We all share in teaching each other all we know at Discount Vac & Sew in Pasco, Wa. Wish you could do a class for us.

  • Susan Wilson

I’d love to become proficient about stitching machine embroidery on christening gowns, ie., the right kind of stabilizer to use, correct thread, how to use multi-hooping for designs down the front of the gown, and any other “heirloom” machine embroidery. Thanks so much.

  • Cecilia

I need to learn everything. From set up to working with the software. I really need at least a full hour of instruction. 🙂

  • Margaret B

I would like to learn how to use PAL and also work on using the endless hoop for both Viking and Babylock machines.

  • Judith Carlon

    How about Portland, Oregon?
I would like to learn how to use simple embroidery designs made for quilting quilts using my Babylock Ellegante2 machine. I am working on a quilt now and just about ready to put it together for quilting. I don’t want to send it out(too expensive) so would like to know how I can do it at home.

  • Diane Cockman

I would like to learn how to make my embroidery look professional like yours. I know an hour would probably not be enough but it would be a start.
Have a wonderful wedding and congratulations.
Would like to see you come to North Carolina.

  • Kim Strouse

I work full-time and would love to learn all the ways to save time and accom;lish alot in a short amount of time. Gadgets or techniques and how to use them confidently. I’d love to see you in Boise, Idaho.

  • Judy

Hi, I would like to know how to line up designs, I guess placement would be a better term.

Plus are you going to be teaching anywhere near Wisconsin? Can you believe that I just got back from Fresno!!!!!

  • Jan K

I would love to be more confident in the selection of the ‘BEST’ stabilizer to be used for those stretchy fabrics.

  • Whitney H

I would like to learn how to perfectly align designs for a neckline. Maybe I’ll learn while you’re in Pittsburgh, because I’m signed up for that session! See you soon!

  • Tera

Oh my! So much to learn, so little time. Probably would have to ask you to start with digitizing tips and tricks. Thanks!

  • Colleen Bell

We are in Connecticut and are so excited that you are coming to New England in May!!! My daughter asked to go with me for her birthday present. Our new Baby Lock was my birthday present this year. We are so grateful to have such a generous husband/father. If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be coming to your wonderful event.

Personally we would love to learn anything, but to answer your question specifically, I have been fascinated by making items “in the hoop.” Such a cool idea and such a time saver. I would love to learn how to create projects in this time saving manner. A birthday banner or hat would be so much fun. Thank you for asking. We can’t wait – wish it was tomorrow.

  • Kathy

I would love to learn how to applique better

  • Rita Turner

I would like to know more about the interaction of needles, threads, fabric, and stabilizers. I tend to find one thing that worked for me once, and then use it for all of my embroidery situations. I know that isn’t correct, but I’m not confident enough to know what changes I need to make to enhance my outcomes. Most of my embroidery turns out “okay,” but I want to achieve “WOW!”… I’m sure you can help, and look forward to seeing you in April in Denver!!

  • Rita Turner

  • Jean

I would love to learn continuous hooping. I have brother machine and only have a 5×7 hoop. I love machine embroidery but I would really love to make mine stand out in the crowd.

  • Jan Weese

If I could have a free hour’s lesson, I would like to master stabelizers. To know that a stiff fabric needs this type of backing and a towel needs a different kind would encourage me to do more projects of my own devising. I would like to know this without spending two or more hours of research.

  • Beth Lindholm

I would love to learn more about digitizing. I have had the Bernina Artista software, version 6 now, for many years. My dealer closed about 4 years ago. It was an hour drive to get there, so of course now I have to go even further for a class. I planned on learning digitizing about 8 years ago and have not gotten very far, although I can do some of it! I spend a lot of time doing machine embroidery and just bought a Brother Quattro and the store is in my town!

  • Cheryl Cole

I am (finally) learning which stabilizer to use, depending on the fabrics/designs. I would love to find out perfect placement!!

  • Sandy L

I was hoping to meet you in Puyallop in early March. Congrats and best wishes to you. Maybe you can come to Bellingham, Wa or Abbotsford BC Ca. Hope to catch you one of these days!

  • betty drake

I would love for you to show me how to embroider on t-shirts. I am having a lot of trouble with small designs and words. The bobin tread pulls to the top.

  • Terry Colucci

Well, if I had to narrow it down to only one thing, I think I’d love to play with you using my Floriani Digitizing software. Beyond that, I’d say continuous designs on store-bought clothes…

  • Vicki Wagner

Will Stitching sisters be anywhere in Wisconsin, Minnesota in 2012.
Would love to do a workshop.

  • Marge Geraci

I need so much help on stabalizing.Continous embroidering is a mystery to me I really need and want help in both of these aspects in machine embroidery. Then I just received a new Brother Onnov’is today for my birthday and I really need help learning my new Machine!

I just returned from the Stitching Sisters event in Pittsburgh,2-10 & 2-11, and let me tell you, I learned some really COOL things such as embellishing with a little dot, ( won’t give away the secret) and a cool thing with a nightlight.
Anyway, if you can attend this event in your city, I highly recommend that you go. These ladies are fun, funny and fabulously talented. I had a really great time. I can’t wait to start the Butterfly quilt from their Stipple collection.
Thanks Eileen and Marie for 2 fun filled informative days. Jan
